GENERAL LESSON POLICIES
Please be on time.
The aim of a singer should not be on a finished product. Good singing is an outcome of the ongoing process of vocal exploration and upkeep. Be patient with yourself, and embrace the process of practice and discovery.

LESSON ATTENDANCE / CANCELLATION POLICY
Cancellation by Student
Students must provide cancellation notice at least 24-hours in advance. A short email that includes the lesson date to be missed is perfect.
This rather standard policy is intended to protect my time, and to ensure that you’re fully committed to our work together. If this seems unduly harsh, please keep in mind that I’m juggling multiple, tightly-scheduled commitments with students and ensembles throughout San Diego. Notifying me of your absence can potentially allow me to see another student at your time, or schedule another engagement. Of course, I’ll be reasonable about emergencies and certain unforeseen circumstances.
Cancellation by Teacher
If I am forced to cancel a scheduled lesson for any reason, I will provide at least 24-hours notice and I will make up the lesson at the nearest available time.
Please be on time.
- Enter at your lesson time, even if I’m still working with another student.
- I do my best to be fair with your time - if lessons start late for any reason (parking, previous student, traffic, etc…), I will try to add time to the end of your lesson or tack on extra time to future lessons.
- Practice discussed technique and exercises between lessons. Regular practice is essential.
- Suggest songs you like / want to sing, and whenever possible, bring in the sheet music in your preferred key. I am happy to assist in finding sheet music and comfortable keys.
- Bring a recording device to your lessons (iPhone, digital recorder, Zoom video recording…) and review the recording when you practice.
- Make sure you understand the "why" behind the exercises and the technique we're going for.
- Stay hydrated, get plenty of rest, and avoid pushing your voice above a moderate speaking volume (be careful in loud bars, sports games, etc…)

What to expect from your teacher:
- Thoughtful analysis of your technique and critique of your song interpretation
- Guidance and support for your at-home practice.
- Singer and repertoire suggestions that will expand and/or supplement the student's musical experience and understanding.
- Encouragement to seek out performance opportunities: community productions, choruses, ensembles, local musical theater, open mics, etc..
